FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do we need to install or change anything in SAP?
Nothing is installed in SAP. The only change in each SAP system is one read-only technical user, created from our role template. The software runs on your Checkmk server and only reads data. One optional feature, off until you switch it on, asks SAP to test the connections you pick.
Does it work with RISE with SAP?
Yes. It needs no access to the operating system or the database. A read-only technical user is enough, and SAP Cloud ALM can add data about hosts and databases. On-premises and private cloud systems work the same way.
Do we need SAP Cloud ALM?
No, it is optional. The read-only user works on its own, and so does SAP Cloud ALM. With both you get the most checks, because some data, such as response times, CPU, memory and disk usage, comes from SAP Cloud ALM only.
What do we need, and how is it licensed?
Checkmk 2.3 or later on a Linux server, plus a read-only technical user in each SAP system and SAP's connection library (neither is needed with SAP Cloud ALM only). Licensed per SAP system and checked on your own Checkmk server. Prices are in the comparison above; contact us for a trial.
What does it not cover?
It covers SAP systems built on ABAP, such as SAP S/4HANA, SAP ERP or SAP BW. It does not cover SAP Java systems, SAP Web Dispatcher or the state of high-availability clusters. Where you have access to the servers, Checkmk's own agent can monitor the operating system and database alongside it.
